Oh becareful little mouth what you say… Prov 10:18

18 The one who conceals hatred has lying lips, and whoever utters slander is a fool. ESV

- It is wrong to be two faced, loving in there presents hateful behind their backs, but that doesn’t justify slander.

Argue your cause with your neighbor himself; discover not and disclose not another’s secret, [Matt 18:15.]  AMP

-         We need to keep the circle of offense as small as possible. So often we are hurt by someone and we share it with three people then we talk to the person and we get it everything sorted out and move on but there are now three people carrying around hurt and offense that was never theirs in the first place plus anyone they may have told. Often the circle of healing doesn’t reach out into the circle of offense. The original members get healing but everyone who picked up the others offenses are left with them.

-         A gossip separates close friends Prov 16:28. Your negative words and attitude that you might have for a little while can spread to others and destroy there relationship and how they see some one else for life.

Matt 18:15

“If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault, between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have gained your brother. ESV

-         AMP says between you and him privately.

-         We need to be careful to keep the circle of offense as small as possible. Prov 25:9; Getting a team to back you up is spreading the size of the circle.

-         The goal is always to be restoration not revenge,

Jonah

Jonah 1:4-7
4 Then the LORD sent a great wind on the sea, and such a violent storm arose that the ship threatened to break up. 5 All the sailors were afraid and each cried out to his own god. And they threw the cargo into the sea to lighten the ship.
But Jonah had gone below deck, where he lay down and fell into a deep sleep. 6 The captain went to him and said, “How can you sleep? Get up and call on your god! Maybe he will take notice of us, and we will not perish.”

 

 

 

Don’t Pretend

Luke 20:47

47 who devour widows’ houses and for a pretense make long prayers. They will receive the greater condemnation.” ESV

- It is the hypocrite that upsets God the most. They are those who pretend to be on one side but live for the other. James says people deceive themselves. Are your actions consistent or are you just deceiving yourself.

Who do you want to be?

John 1:47-49

47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward Him, and said of him, “Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom is no deceit!”

48 Nathanael said to Him, “How do You know me?” Jesus answered and said to him, “Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.”

49 Nathanael answered and said to Him, “Rabbi, You are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!” NKJV

- Jesus describes him as someone in whom is no deceit. His response is different than ours would be. It wasn’t you are confusing me with someone, it wasn’t like hey he is flattering me or exaggerating, it was, how do you know me. I want to live a life like that. God I want to live a life marked by character, I want your word to guide me. I want to live a life that will make you smile. What character sets you apart? If Jesus was to describe you in a sentence what would that sentence be? Do you like the answer you found, is that the kind of person you want to be? If not, you can change how you live and it will change the sentence.

Quiet Times

John 6:15

Therefore when Jesus perceived that they were about to come and take Him by force to make Him king, He departed again to the mountain by Himself alone. NKJV

- Jesus knew when to withdraw (Matt 14:23; Mark 1:35; 6:46; Luke 5:16; 6:12; John 6:15). He was always full of love for people yet he knew how to step back from all the business of life and seek God. I need to make sure I take time to withdraw. I need to make sure I am spending time with God with the clock stopped. It is too easy to get caught in such a fast pace that even your time with God is rushed by everything else that is going on or that it doesn’t have your complete attention.

Fruit of your life

John 14:23-24

23 Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.  24 He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine but the Father’s who sent Me.  NKJV

- John 14:15; 15:14; 1 John 4:8; our actions demonstrate what is in our heart. Prov 20:11 tells us that even a child is known by their actions. Matt 12:33; tells us we judge a tree by its fruit. Jesus is telling us what fruit to look for in someone who says they love him. He says that if we love Him the fruit will be obedience, but if you find the fruit of disobedience, they don’t love God. John 15:4; says that He is the true vine and that we can’t bear fruit apart from Him. God I want to give you all that I am. I want my life to come from you, the true vine. I want the fruit of my life to demonstrate a love for you.

What is your heart set on?

Ps 119:2-3

2 Blessed are they who keep his statutes and seek him with all their heart.

3 They do nothing wrong; they walk in his ways. NIV

- Where you set your heart determines where you walk. Have you deliberately placed your heart some where? If you don’t choose on purpose it will make bad default choices. Jer 17:9; 2 Chron 12:14 – Rehoboam didn’t choose to set his heart on evil he just didn’t choose to set his heart on God and so he did evil.  

- We need to choose today to set out heart to please the lord. Josh 24:15

- This is the key to Right living. They do nothing wrong. Why? Because they are seeking God with all their heart. Matt 22:37-40 Says to love God and his people and you will fulfill every other command. Are you seeking God or yourself first? What is your heart set on? A heart that is set on Pleasing God needs to know what pleases God, Ps 119:9-11, 105. If we are seeking God we will fill up on his word that shows us what pleases Him. If he is our number one desire when we see what pleases Him we will make that our desire.

- The heart comes up in Ps 119 15 times in NKJV

Who are you fighting for?

Prov 28:4

4 Those who forsake the law praise the wicked, But such as keep the law contend with them. NKJV

-           I was just thinking this morning the wicked and the righteous our not two roads they are opposing forces. One cannot dance between them; your every act is celebrating one or the other. Whose team are you playing for? I think there are a lot of people that want to be on the team of the righteous, and the wise, yet they play for the wicked and the foolish. They think that they can some how dance between, or sit on the fence. This is a fight and your every action is fighting for one side or the other. Do you know who you are fighting for?
