Prov 8:7-8
7 For my mouth will speak truth; Wickedness is an abomination to my lips.
8 All the words of my mouth are with righteousness; Nothing crooked or perverse is in them. NKJV
- Ps 34:13; Prov 18:21
- That doesn’t happen on accident if you want to keep your tongue from evil it will be work. You will need to choose to make a stand. Stand fast and when you fall get back up. (Prov 24:16) Eph 6:13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with… NIV after you do all you can to stand you, stand still firm in the armor of God without it you will not be able to stand.
- James refers to our tongue as our great faith tester. James 1:26 if anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person religion is worthless. ESV the NLT puts it this way, “If you claim to be religious but don’t control your tongue, you are just fooling yourself, and your religion is worthless. NLT”
- If the use of our tongue is such a big deal where should I make my stand?
1. Be quick to listen and slow to speak James 1:19
a. Only when you when you are slow to speak do you have the time to bridle your tongue. (James 1:26) Often times when we aren’t slow to speak everyone else hears what you are thinking at the same time as you. And it is then you often hear “I didn’t mean to say that…”
b. Regardless of how much you thought about what you are going to say you still said it and it has the same effect.
