Set Apart

Ps 4:3

But know that the Lord has set apart the godly for himself; the Lord hears when I call to him. ESV

- You aren’t an accident you have been set apart.

- The Lord hears when I call. Thank you God for noticing me. Who am I that you are mindful of me? (Ps 8:4) Yet you listen when I pray. How blessed am I that God almighty cares for and listens to me. 1 Thess  5:17

Don’t sit on the fence

1 Cor 10:21

21 You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons. You cannot partake of the table of the Lord and the table of demons. ESV

-         Paul writes to those who say they are following God but don’t want to stop living for themselves. His audience wanted to hang out in places where non-believers worshiped their idols and they wanted to eat from the feast. The problem is still around today. There are a lot of Christians that don’t want to give up everything to live for God. They still want to keep some of their old habits or friends. They want to live for God on Sunday but do their own thing during the week or on the weekend. Are you really living for God or are you sitting on the fence?

-          You can’t play that game any more. Who are you going to live for? It is time to get off the fence. Throw your saddle away you can’t live on the fence. You can’t live for God and the world. In spite of the way we tend to picture a line on the ground with a little fence that divides living for God and living for yourself that is not how God sees it. Prov 28:4 tells us that our every action praises someone. Our lives either praise or oppose God. Prov 14:2 contrast those who follow God and those who choose to live in sin. It says that those who choose to walk in sin despise God. Rev 3:15 takes out any middle ground we thought we could live in. It says those who are look warm will be spewed out and would be better off cold. James 1:22 says that if we hear but don’t do we are only fooling ourselves.

-         Are there places in your life where you have been sitting on the fence? Are their areas you still need to give God everything?

-         Prov 14:2; 28:4; James 1:22; Rev 3:15

Authority

Rom 13:1-2

Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. 2 Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves. NKJV

-         Authority Acts 23:5; Eph 6:1-2; Heb 13:17; 1 Peter 2:13-15;

-         I would like to say to start with that I don’t like this verse. But that doesn’t change its divine status. God is the ultimate and divine authority, when we start rebelling against authorities we are ultimately rebelling against Him. God instituted the home and it was His idea to place parents in the home and to give them authority. He tells kids in to obey their patents (Eph 6:1-2), if they refuse they are rebelling against more then just their parents. The Bible does make it clear if the authority is telling you to disobey God you still need to obey God (Acts 5:29) He is the ULTIMATE authority. But I think by nature I have a tendency to undervalue the other authorities that God has ordained. God help me to respect all authority that you have established.
