Prov 10:7
7 The memory of the righteous will be a blessing, but the name of the wicked will rot. NIV
- How will you be remembered? Will you be remembered for integrity or for selfishness? Philemon 1:5;
- There are people you meet that make or break a name. Every time you hear their name you either smile or cringe. How will your name be remembered when you leave?
- Reputations are a strange thing. They can be some what like legends. They are formed not by truth but by perception. People give me credit for being more active and crazy then I am. They tend to have a larger then life view of what stands out. So what other areas of my life do they exaggerate, what else stands out that I am remembered for? If your reputation is an exaggerated version of what people see, like a cartoon or characture version of you. What would you look like? What character traits would stand out, kindness or a short temper, generosity or selfishness, bully or defender of the weak?
- Would you like or be proud of the image you will be remembered for? Are there things in your life you wouldn’t want exaggerated or even remembered for that matter? I think there are things in my life. Rather then just trying to change people’s perception of me I think I need to change me. How about you?
- Deut 1:36 is the memory of Caleb, 1 Sam 13:14/Acts 13:22; Recalls David as a man after God’s own heart. What will your epitaph look like? (Alfred Nobel saw his epitaph and changed how he would be remembered)
- Prov 20:11; 22:1; 27:21; Eccl 10:1; Titus 1:16;
Ex 9:27
27 Then Pharaoh sent and called Moses and Aaron and said to them, “This time I have sinned; the Lord is in the right, and I and my people are in the wrong. ESV
- Through the consequence of his disobedience Pharaoh admits to being wrong and begins to repent. He acknowledges that he has been in the wrong and that God has been in the right yet when the pain stops, he reverts back to his sin and resists the Lord.
- If repentance doesn’t bring a change in heart and action it isn’t repentance but simply trying to get out of trouble. In verse 34 Pharaoh sees the hail stop and is no longer interested in changing. In fact in vs 35 it says he continued to harden his heart. (NUM 11:2)
- God, am I repentant or am I just trying avoid the consequences to my sin? Lord, soften my heart that I may follow you all the days of my life. Don’t let me harden my heart or stop feeling the pain from my sin. Help me to repent and turn from my sin. Help me to live for you. God I ask for a soft heart. I want to be quick to repent and change.
Ex 18:21
21 Moreover you shall select from all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them to be rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens. NKJV
- Qualifications for leadership Num 27:17; Deut 1:13; Acts 6:3; 1 Tim 3:2-4, 7-10; Titus 1:7-8;
- James 3:1 Notes on leadership
- Just because you are a leader doesn’t mean you are ready to lead the planet. Some of thousands, some of hundreds some fifties and some of Ten.
- The more you lead the less room there is for error. It is like the slalom course, the faster you run it the less you can get away with. As long as you are cutting corners where you are at you will never be able lead all that God has called you to.
- God are there areas in my life where I am cutting corners? Show them to me, help me to deal with them, I want to grow so you can use me for more.
Prov 18:13
He who answers a matter before he hears it, It is folly and shame to him. NKJV
Listen before you answer. If you don’t, you are being stupid and insulting. TEV
- I think I have been guilty of answering before I had really finished listening. Be quick to listen and slow to speak. Vs 17; James 1:19; Prov 1:5; Rev 3:13; Acts 19:35-38;
I just made this mistake on a first class level. I got a face book message with the title, “my daughter” and a little picture of a baby in a hospital blanket. I didn’t have much time so I didn’t read the post I just sent a message saying congratulations. I thought nothing of it until I received a return message saying: Congratulations???? So then I clicked on the original post to read through it. When the picture was made bigger you could see it was not a new born in fact she was 18 months old. She had just gone to the hospital with a life threatening illness. She was recovering but they were uninsured missionaries and were asking for help to pay the large hospital bills. Needless to say I felt like an idiot. Answering before listening made me look stupid and came off very insulting.
