Correction

Ps 25:9

9 The humble He guides in justice, And the humble He teaches His way. NKJV

-         God will teach those who will listen. Am I humble enough to listen, to receive correction? God, I want to be humble. I want to receive your instruction, not defend myself and the reasons I made wrong choices.

-         Ps 141:5(correction is a blessing) Prov 1:5 (the wise hear and increase in learning) Prov 16:18 (pride comes before destruction). Those who think they are always right don’t receive correction. They choose to face the consequences of their mistakes before learning, and they often refuse to change. Those who refuse correction are foolish (Prov 9:7-9; 12:1), & their own folly will destroy their lives. God, help me to always receive and learn from correction.

Humility

2 Chron 34:27

Because your heart was tender and you humbled yourself before God when you heard his words against this place and its inhabitants, and you have humbled yourself before me and have torn your clothes and wept before me, I also have heard you, declares the Lord.

-        Humility is so important. God heard, because he responded humbly. How have you responded? God, help me to respond humbly with a soft heart. Help me to be ready to change what needs to change. 1 Thess 5:17.

-        Funny that this is the problem caused by those around him, yet he responds with humble repentance. Saul got called out on his own sin and blamed the people. He was proud and didn’t take responsibility for his actions. God, help me to be humble and repent for my mistakes and those I represent. Don’t let pride slip in and stop me from your will. Help me to be humble, seeking you all the days off my life. Help me to be humble enough to receive correction, regardless of how its administered. Help me to lay down my pride and my need to defend myself. I want to recognize my failures and change, not blame. God have your way in me. Ps 141:5.

Correction

Prov 15:31-32

31 The ear that hears the rebukes of life Will abide among the wise. 32 He who disdains instruction despises his own soul, But he who heeds rebuke gets understanding.  NKJV

It is so easy to get irritated and defensive when being corrected, but we are told here that those who receive rebuke will be at home among the wise.  Those who don’t despise themselves. That isn’t what comes naturally by any means, but it is how God says it works.  I always want to be someone who receives correction well.

Easier said than done.

1 Cor 9:27

27 But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified. NKJV

-          Matt 23:3; Lord help me to do all that I know to do. It is so easy to give others wise advice. Yet it can sometimes be hard to just do it yourself. You know what you would tell someone else if they were in your spot, but it can be hard to do. Many things are easier said than done. Lord, help me to do what I know. Help me to bring my obedience to the level of my knowledge. Help me lord to never have a double standard or hypocrisy in my life. Prov 3:5-6; Matt 23:3;

-          1 Cor 11:1; 1 Thess 1:5; James 3:1

Teach ME

Prov 9:8-9

Do not rebuke a mocker or he will hate you; rebuke a wise man and he will love you. 9 Instruct a wise man and he will be wiser still; teach a righteous man and he will add to his learning.

This scripture says that if we want to be wise we have to learn to accept correction and rebuke. That can be a hard thing to endure. God please help me to be wise and to learn from others.

Thoughts from AVK

Correction with Love

Titus 1:13

13 This testimony is true. Therefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith, NKJV

-          Rebuke or correction are to bring healing, restoration, and change. They are not for releasing your anger and frustration. They are to be an act of love. Therefore, remember that when you are angry it is not the time to discipline. When you don’t feel like disciplining, but you see a need to, you are responsible to help them. When you are corrected, remember they are helping you whether it feels like it or not. Prov 22:6

What we need to hear

Prov 15:12

12 Mockers don’t love those who rebuke them, so they stay away from the wise.

NLT

-     Prov 22:6; Prov 1:5

-         Sometimes the things that we need to hear hurt. Do you avoid the people who will tell you what you need to hear instead of what you want to hear? Do you seek those that will speak into your life even when it means correcting you, or do you avoid them, do you look for people that will just say nice things about you?

-         Vs31 there are always those ready to speak into us life changing instruction but we have to open up and choose to hear.

Deafening Attitude

Prov 14:6

A scoffer seeks Wisdom in vain [for his very attitude blinds and deafens him to it], but knowledge is easy to him who [being teachable] understands. AMP

-         Your attitude can be deafening. How is yours? Rev 3:13NLT

-         Are you willing to admit you are wrong? Do you receive correction or try to defend yourself? Do you make excuses and point the blame at something or someone else or do you own up to what you can change? He who thinks he knows it all doesn’t learn anything.

Correction is ok!

Ps 25:9

9 The humble He guides in justice, And the humble He teaches His way. NKJV

-         God will teach those who will listen. Am I humble enough to listen, to receive correction? God I want to be humble, I want to receive your instruction not defend myself and the reasons I made wrong choices.

-         Ps 141:5(correction is a blessing) Prov 1:5 (the wise hear and increase in learning) Prov 16:18 (pride comes before destruction) those who are think they are always right don’t receive correction, they choose to face the consequences of their mistakes before learning, and still they often refuse to change. (Prov 26:11)

You have influence…

Prov 10:17

17 Whoever heeds instruction is on the path to life, but he who rejects reproof leads others astray. ESV

-         How you handle correction says a lot about you. Prov 1:5; 22:6

-         You are responsible for what you do with what you know and for the impact that your choices have on others. James 3:1 tells us leaders have a stricter judgment. Matt 18:6 seems to imply that we will each give an account for our leadership, and what we did with it. Prov 26:8 talks about the fool who waste the opportunities God gives showing us influence not wisely used is wasted, yet even worse many use their influence for harm. Matt 18:6 speaks of those who cause others to sin and speaks of judgment for it. Ezek 33:2-6 speaks of the responsibility of the watchmen, or those who know.

-         God help me to use my influence wisely. Help to lead people closer to you. I don’t ever want to miss-lead people. Help me point my life toward you. I don’t want my mistakes, actions or words to cause or give an excuse for someone else to sin.
