Your Legacy

Prov 10:7

7 The memory of the righteous will be a blessing, but the name of the wicked will rot. NIV

-         How will you be remembered? Will you be remembered for integrity or for selfishness? Philemon 1:5;

-         There are people you meet that make or break a name. Every time you hear their name you either smile or cringe. How will your name be remembered when you leave?

-         Reputations are a strange thing. They can be some what like legends. They are formed not by truth but by perception. People give me credit for being more active and crazy then I am. They tend to have a larger then life view of what stands out. So what other areas of my life do they exaggerate, what else stands out that I am remembered for? If your reputation is an exaggerated version of what people see, like a cartoon or characture version of you. What would you look like? What character traits would stand out, kindness or a short temper, generosity or selfishness, bully or defender of the weak?

-         Would you like or be proud of the image you will be remembered for?  Are there things in your life you wouldn’t want exaggerated or even remembered for that matter? I think there are things in my life. Rather then just trying to change people’s perception of me I think I need to change me. How about you?

-         Deut 1:36 is the memory of Caleb, 1 Sam 13:14/Acts 13:22; Recalls David as a man after God’s own heart. What will your epitaph look like? (Alfred Nobel saw his epitaph and changed how he would be remembered)

-         Prov 20:11; 22:1; 27:21; Eccl 10:1; Titus 1:16;

What are you proud of?

Phil 3:19

19 Their end is destruction, their god is their belly, and they glory in their shame, with minds set on earthly things. ESV

- Hosea 7:14;

- What is your glory in? What are you proud of? What do you look up to? The answer to these questions tells a lot about you. You model after what you respect; you try to become more of what you are proud of. Are you proud that you can speak softly and cool things when every one is upset; or that no one wants to mess with you? The world glorifies different things then God does? Are you striving to be honored in the worlds system or God’s? I know the right answer but sometimes I have to reset myself because I see my initial response to things to be what the world respects. I guess this is the process they call renewing your mind. (Rom 12:2)

What would someone say of you?

Prov 27:19

      19 As water reflects a face, so a man’s heart reflects the man. NIV

      - Prov 27:21;  23:7; 4:23; 17:3;

- a man’s life will reflect his heart, one can not separate the heart of the man from his life any more then one can separate a man from his reflection, or the shadow he gives off.

Prov 27:21

The refining pot is for silver and the furnace for gold, And a man is valued by what others say of him. NKJV

·     A man is valued by his reputation. His reputation is built on what people say which is built on what he does.

·     The amplified brings out another point as well. It ends the verse saying that a man is judged by what he praises and of what he boast.

·     1 Thess 5:21 Prov 27:19; 17:3; 20:11; 22:1 Matt 12:33; Rev 3:10; 1 Cor 3:13-15; 2 Cor 2:9; 2 Cor 13:5;  Gal 6:4;  James 1 ; 1 John 2:3-5

Who do you want to be?

John 1:47-49

47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward Him, and said of him, “Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom is no deceit!”

48 Nathanael said to Him, “How do You know me?” Jesus answered and said to him, “Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.”

49 Nathanael answered and said to Him, “Rabbi, You are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!” NKJV

- Jesus describes him as someone in whom is no deceit. His response is different than ours would be. It wasn’t you are confusing me with someone, it wasn’t like hey he is flattering me or exaggerating, it was, how do you know me. I want to live a life like that. God I want to live a life marked by character, I want your word to guide me. I want to live a life that will make you smile. What character sets you apart? If Jesus was to describe you in a sentence what would that sentence be? Do you like the answer you found, is that the kind of person you want to be? If not, you can change how you live and it will change the sentence.
