The reward…is death

Prov 5:23

23 He will die for lack of self-control; he will be lost because of his incredible folly. NLT

23 Death is the reward of an undisciplined life; your foolish decisions trap you in a dead end. MSG

-         Sin takes the life of those who love it most.

-         Prov 11:5; unrestrained freedom ends trapped in a dead end formed by the choices it has made. Are the choices your making today going to haunt or free your future?

Are you prepared? 1 Peter 1:13

1 Peter 1:13

13 Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed. NIV

1. We need prepare are minds Rom 12:2

- only when we renew our minds with His word can we see what He sees, only when we see what He sees are we ready to act as He would act.

2. We need to choose to be self-controlled.

- Self-control is a choice. Eph 4:26; 1 Peter 5:8

- lack of self control is an open door for the devil.(Prov 25:28; 1 Cor 7:5) He is out to destroy us (1 Peter 5:8/John 10:10) so to be self-controlled we need to be prepared with God’s word inside so that it can come out, with our hope not in our strength but in God’s grace.

- Only with clear vision can there be restraint Prov 29:18

3. We need to fully set our Hope in God’s grace not our performance.

- Rom 11:6; Eph 2:8;

Self-Control Prov 25:8

Prov 25:28

*              28 Like a city whose walls are broken down is a man who lacks self-control.

NIV

-         Eph 4:26; 1 Peter 1:13, Prov 16:32

-         At first I tend to see this simply along the lines of Anger. Someone who can’t control their own temper is a disaster waiting to happen. But it is saying much more then that See 1 Peter 1:13, 1 Peter 5:8 Satan is looking to attack you like a lion. He is out to destroy you (John 10:10) Lack of self-control is worse then an open door. An open door is leave an opening for the enemy, missing walls leaves every angle open. 1 Cor 7:5 talks about temptation that enters through lack of self control. 2 Tim 1:7 ESV God hasn’t given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and Self-control. I have no excuse for God gave me all that I need.

-         God help me to be full of your spirit. Overflowing with the fruit of your spirit (Gal 5:22). Let a heart set on pleasing you fill me with Self-control, may my love and fear of you produce a hatetred of sin in me.
