You give your tongue permission.

1 Sam 2:3

3 Talk no more so very proudly, let not arrogance come from your mouth; for the Lord is a God of knowledge, and by him actions are weighed. ESV

-         Your Tongue is under your control. It doesn’t speak with out your permission. You may not think before granting your mouth permission to speak  but it doesn’t speak without permission. Lord help me to take responsibility for my words. Help me to only speak what will build people up. Let no arrogant, harsh, corrupt, or degrading words come out of my mouth, help me to guard my tongue. PS 141:3; Prov 18:21;

Where is your focus?

Ps 40:8

8 I desire to do your will, O my God; your law is within my heart.” NIV

-         Prov 13:19;  PS 119:11; Ps 37:4;

-         God give me that desire for you and your word. It appears it is a result of filling my heart with your law. Choosing what I fill my heart with is a job you gave me. Help me to fill up on and meditate on your word. Ps 103 David tells his soul to bless the lord and he does it by choosing to remember all his benefits. He chose where to focus and it changed his attitude. Lord may my meditation be pleasing you PS 104:34 If you want to see a desire for God and his word read PS 119. The overwhelming theme for that chapter is a love for God’s word which seems to be an overflow of his heart of what he has stuck inside. Over and over it talks about how he meditates on God’s word. Ps 119:15-16 talks about how he meditates on God’s word which results in vs 16 which is delight in God’s word. It becomes his joy and desire. Lord, help me choose to meditate on things pleasing to you. My desire and my beliefs determine my choices and actions. No wonder renewing my mind is so important Rom 12:2. God grant me your way of thinking. Let me see the world through the filter of your word, so I can see what you see and want what you want.

Think about what you are thinking about! Rom 12:2

Rom 12:2

2 Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is — his good, pleasing and perfect will.

NIV

- Mind or Thoughts1 Cor 10:5 we are to take thoughts captive, Rom 12:2 we are to renew our minds, Phil 4:8 tells us to think on things that are praise worthy Col 3:2 says we are to set our mind on things above; 1 Peter 3:13 tells us to prepare or gird up our mind.

- Do you take control of your thinking? Do you take responsibility for your thoughts or do you just let what ever thought comes up fill your mind. The Bible keeps telling us what to do with our thoughts because we have a choice. The old saying is that you can’t stop birds from flying over your head but you can keep them from nesting in your hair. It is true, you can’t stop ideas from coming up but you can decide what to do with them when they do. I think a lot of our thoughts have a lot do with your meditation and random regurgitating of things you put in, but it is still a choice whether you will dwell on the random thoughts or to move on. If most of our thoughts are somehow tied to things we put in our brain we can change much of the random thoughts by choosing what we put in. I don’t have German swear words coming up in my mind because I have no idea what they are. Some times I do have words come up that I have to choose not to use but they are words that I have heard. They are things that I have let in. What are you letting in? The more I watch my intake the less I will have to watch my overflow. Your overflow will always consist of the things that are inside Prov 4:23/ Matt 12:34. What are we filling up on?

- God Help the meditation of my heart to be pleasing to you Ps 19:14 (NIV). Let my thoughts always bring me closer to you.
